Whether you've got a three-day weekend coming up that you want to take advantage of or you're looking for a getaway from Roanoke, we have some suggestions to make the most of your weekend trip.
1. Shenandoah National Park
The beautiful Shenandoah National Park encompasses parts of the Blue Ridge Mountains. We’d recommend the scenic Skyline Drive, a 105-mile-long road that runs along the entire length of the park. The views are gorgeous!
2. Virginia State Capitol
As the third capital city of the United States, the Virginia State Capitol holds so much history waiting to be uncovered. There is plenty to do in our capital city, so make a day or weekend out of exploring history and nature. On our list in Richmond is the Edgar Allen Poe House and Belle Isle.
3. Mill Mountain Star and Park
Enjoy your own backyard! Mill Mountain is a fun one! It’s home to the largest freestanding illuminated man-made star in the world. In this area, you’ll find lots of scenic trails and lookouts along with an awesome light show from the star.
4. Bottom Creek Gorge
This beautiful piece of nature offers trails and waterfalls to marvel at. Enjoy a hike and take in all of the wildlife, flowers, and photo ops!
5. Blue Ridge Parkway
This 496-mile stretch of scenic highway winds through the Blue Ridge Mountains and connects many hiking trails and national parks. The Parkway is the perfect way to travel around the area and take in the breathtaking views all around you.
